Hi, this is Natalie, a Student Ambassador of Operation Smile Student Programs 2020.

Do you know in every 3 minutes, a child is born with cleft palate or cleft lip? Without proper care and support,  these children live a tough life. While other children are babbling to their parents, these children experience difficulties in speech production. While other children are enjoying group games at the playground, these children are prone to isolation and being bullied.  

To turn the trauma into a smile, a 45-minute surgery is all it takes!  Over the past decades, Operation Smile have assembled dedicated medical and non-medical volunteers in the hope of restoring beautiful smiles by providing safe and free surgery for individuals with cleft palate from over 30 countries.  

Having been inspired by Operation Smile's mission, I feel so blessed to be a part of this meaningful program. As a student ambassador, I wish to contribute by volunteering in fundraising events and medical missions to help construct a better future for the children. 

My target is to raise HKD 6,800 which covers all the medical expenses for 1 surgery. And I hope you could join hands with me in helping these children. 

Many children with cleft palate are waiting for the chance to receive this life-changing surgery. There are TWO simple ways you could help bring hope to them.

2. Take part in WALK FOR SMILES

WALK FOR SMILES is the first charity walkathon to be held in Hong Kong to raise funds for Operation Smile. With generous supporters like you, we have been able to serve more than 308,000 children who are born with cleft conditions from underprivileged families around the globe for 38 years.❤️

Through this walkathon, we are aiming to raise funds for covering 100 life-changing surgeries to patients with our free and high-quality operations. You are welcome to join as Individual, Team or Corporate.

Assembly Time: 9:00 am
Starting Point: The Peak Road Garden
Route: Harlech Road to Lugard Road
Distance: 3.5km
Time: 1-1.5 hours

Virtual Walk
Participants could design and complete the route within the designated period, to avoid the crowd during the outbreak of COVID-19.

Standard distance: 3.5KM

How to join?
1. Sign up for "Walk for Smiles": https://www.fringebacker.com/en/event/2020-walk-for-smiles/
2. Setup a distance calculator on the mobile phone app
3. Complete your walk between the 30 May and 30 June at home or other safe places.
4. Take a photo including the participant, screenshot of the counted distance
5. Send the photos and screenshots to Operation Smile email
6. Upload the photos to your Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #WalkForSmiles. Like our social media platforms.
