Nutrition for Every Child

Children are the budding pillars of society. Every child is entitled to good nutrition, a healthy lifestyle and education. Sadly, many don’t get them.

Malnutrition leads to lethargy, stunted physical growth and arrested mental development. Malnutrition also cripples the immune system and increases risk of infections. We can stop malnutrition today! We aim to do this through One Goal.

What is One Goal?

World Vision International, along with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Asian Football Development Project(AFDP), Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition(GAIN) and Royal DSM have initiated a social movement called One Goal.

One Goal aims to eliminate malnutrition among children across 47 most gravely stricken countries across Asia starting with Vietnam.

Under the banner of "Nutrition for every child", this campaign will leverage on football to raise US$50,000 to help provide nutrition clubs for 10,000 malnourished children, under the age of five, in Vietnam, specifically in 3 provinces - Dien Bien, Yen Bai and Quang Ngai.

What has football got to do with nutrition?

Football has the power to unite the people of different countries. It can be a catalyst to communicate this important message across physical and cultural borders.

One Goal is calling on the support of the public and football fans globally to harness their power and passion for football totackle the issue of malnutrition; to give children in Asia the ‘sporting chance’ to achieve their highest potential.

One Goal seeks to level the playing field for children in Asia by changing their fate with improved nutritional outcome through the Nutrition Club.

Impacting lives through the Nutrition Club.

The primary mission of the Nutrition Club is to eradicate malnutrition and advocate the prevention of malnutrition. This is to be done by raising awareness among caregivers, fostering proper health care practices, promoting community sustainable interventions, and increasing access of families to food security and agricultural opportunities.

In Vietnam, the Nutrition Club covers 29 Area Development Programs (ADP) undertaken by World Vision.

Approximately 41% of the areas covered are villages, with a total of 521 nutrition clubs, reaching out to an estimated 17,029 children per month, where 27% of the children are below the age of five.

We have seen positive outcomes so far. Families are cultivating vegetable patches and rearing domestic animals, hence are able to supplement their children’s diets with adequate nutrients needed. Caregivers demonstrated good knowledge of hygienic food preparation, nutrition, feeding, as well as management of common infections and accidents in children. Consequently the living conditions and nutrition of these children have improved.
