Who am I?

I’m Syrus Kwan, born in 1986, a local Hong-Konger.

Growing up in a single-parent family, my mother and I together make a happy family, which became one of the most important parts of my life.

In 2005, my mother migrated to the United States, I learnt to be independent from then on, and I started to confront challenges and difficulties in life on my own. 

In 2007, I graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and began to explore and experience the world. 

I always wanted to become an outstanding designer and establish my own brand, hoping to contribute to Art and to bring positive influences to the world. 

In 2010, I eventually established my own brand ‘SOMEONE’. A ‘SOMEONE’ can be a stranger or a very important person. This ‘SOMEONE’ who is close to you should always be treasured and remembered. I also hope that the idea of design could be popularized through the establishment of ‘SOMEONE’, as design is made for life, and every corner of the world needs design. 

In 2013, I’m going to create a brand-new series of illustrations - <LITTLE SOMEONE>. 

What is <LITTLE SOMEONE>?

<LITTLE SOMEONE> is SOMEONE’s main project in 2013. When I first established SOMEONE in 2010, I wanted to share my philosophy in life. There are many memorable and valuable things in life that you never want to forget. 

I love my home, Hong Kong, and everything within this city. And I want to express this through my love of drawing. As I will be migrating to the United States two years from now, I would like to take this opportunity to capture memories of my friends and my hometown through my artwork, and bring them with me to the United States. 

This collection will be a treasured part of my work. And before leave, I’d hope to hold a <LITTLE SOMEONE> exhibition, and share with every one of you my love for Hong Kong and our culture. 

Through my artwork, I would like to:

• Promote Hong Kong through the various beautiful and cultural aspects of the city, and
• Inspire everyone to love Hong Kong and its culture 

This collection is particularly targeted to:

• My friends and relatives
• Tourists who’d like to know more about Hong Kong 
• Locals who care about art and culture in Hong Kong
• Youth who are pursuing their dreams
• Art and design students

In each piece of artwork, I will draw a friend of mine together with a representative building, as to show how much I treasure and love them.

For this project, I will be holding a <LITTLE SOMEONE> exhibition…

• Period of exhibition: 1-2 weeks

• Exhibition Details: in the exhibition, you can see the collection of artwork. You can easily know more about Hong Kong and experience original and simple art.

After holding the exhibition, I will be officially publishing the ‘Little Someone’ collection to the public. I hope that the <LITTLE SOMEONE> collection could be made as gift items to sell in retail shops. Also, I would like to organize more exhibitions in Hong Kong, or overseas later.

Ultimately, I hope more and more people will love <LITTLE SOMEONE>, and I can have my own theme shop - my own little kingdom in the future. Stay tuned for my updates!
