BIKE TO DREAM --- a charitable project
Project by : InspiringHK Sports Foundation
Two Men, and Four Wheels, and 8,000 Km, and 120 Days
Youth are supposed to be bright and active. In fact, our future is premised on their physical and intellectual development. But the problem is that too many youth are so disadvantaged that they are probably the most inactive and least stimulated generation in recent memory. FreeWiders see a future where today's disadvantaged youth play on a level playing field, at least when they are dancing, kicking, and running.
To help do this, FreeWiders set out 4 months ago on their modern-day Orient Express. Except that this Orient Express doesn't take in the glory of the Asian scenery while wining and dining in carriages fit for royalty -- this one runs on 2-wheeled bicycles that are powered by the tireless legs of Isaac Cheng and Jan Choi. And this one starts at Hong Kong, through 100 cities, ending in New Delhi, India after about 120 days and 8,000 km.
As part of InspiringHK Sports Foundation’s commitment to youth and sports, Freewiders' Bike to Dream program is a unique and unprecedented collaboration with FringeBacker to bring public donors together with an international endurance program of unimaginable proportions, to benefit dance and sports for disadvantaged youth in Hong Kong.
So, now, it's Two Men + Two Bicycles + 8,000 Km in 120 days, from Hong Kong through Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Tibet, and Nepal to New Delhi, India – and these two men have been unsupported for more than 120 days!
About us -- InspiringHK Sports Foundation
InspiringHK Sports Foundation is a registered charity that aims to engage more people in the community to participate in sports events. Our mission is to inspire young individuals from local communities with holistic learning experience programs so as to motivate them to achieve life-changing experience beyond sports, empower them with values and traits, unleash their potentials, energise our society with positivity, and in the long run contribute to a better Hong Kong.
That’s why we are delighted to have FreeWiders raising funds for InspiringHK.
About FreeWiders
The FreeWiders (Isaac Cheng and Jan Choi) are tremendously enthusiastic young men who are eager to conquer new ground, and who believe that the impossible can be turned into the possible. FreeWiders started this Bike to Dream expedition to climb the Himalayan ranges to (literally) see the world from the top down.
Our Goal
FreeWiders aim to raise HK$40,000 for InspiringHK. These funds will enable 40 teenagers from low income households in Sham Shui Po to receive dancing or running courses free of charge for a year (the running sessions will be hosted by a Hong Kong running record holder). And with HK$80,000 in funds raised, InspiringHK would be able to set up a new women’s football training programme for 20 teenagers from low income households in Kwun Tong free of charge (the training sessions would be hosted by a Hong Kong Women’s Football team member).
FreeWiders will host a photo exhibition to share their experience upon returning to Hong Kong. Details will be announced in due course.
So LET'S GO! Let's support FreeWiders as they work towards their fundraising target for InspiringHK!
Journey of FreeWiders
On 17 June 2013, FreeWiders set off from the HKU campus to New Delhi, India. Emcompassing a cycle trek of 8,000km, across various countries, it has taken them 4 months of solitary cycling to have endured the journey through Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and Tibet, and then finally reaching New Delhi by mid-October.
It's an understatement to merely say that the journey was tough -- for them, they were faced with endless challenges that included endless injuries and difficulties, biking up to an altitude of 4,000 m in the cold, having a flat tyre three times a day, or being bedridden for days , to mention a few.
