About Tse Wan Kin's Fundraiser
I target to raise HK$1,000 for Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled.
Before I share my story, I hope that all of you can donate actively so that I can target to raise at least HK$1,000 for Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled. Indeed, I am also raising funds for the UNICEF Hong Kong. At this important moment, I need urgent help from all of you, just like a large number of colleagues who love running. I would like all of you to donate actively before this year's UNICEF HK Charity Run. My link for fundraising in such event before 26th November this year is http://run.unicef.org.hk/zh/home/72276.html.
I had been interested in distance running when I was young. I had even learned distance running from a famous coach. I had participated in different distance running races in a couple of years' time and, I had even received a trophy ten years ago. I had also completed the whole course of 10km Challenge Category in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon in about fifty-one minutes nine years ago. I still have not given up on sports, even though I had to be busy for my work and studies, as well as my personal retake of the Advanced Level Examination. I looked for opportunities to practice distance running with a group of friends actively when I was free. I even joined different running clubs to have trainings on distance running about three years ago.
A large group of online communities later held charity and support events to help the Austrian artistic swimmer Vanessa Sahinovic and the pole vaulter Kira Grunburg stand up again, when they become athletes with physical disability due to serious accidents. I was fortunate enough to be able to take part in these events at that time, giving blessings to them and supporting their long-term rehabilitation progresses. I also made up my mind and determined to use actions to cheer on every athlete who encountered failures and every unsuccessful prospective volunteer in multi-sports games at that moment: This was a very meaningful thing to me even if this was not the norm in the point of many others' views. It seemed to be funny and ridiculous to see that I am still not good in swimming and cycling outdoors today, however, as I only have a good command in running on different road conditions. I chose to use another way to support these two young ladies because of this.
I resolutely put on a one-piece swimsuit designated for competitions and trainings, with a piece of swimming brief being worn beforehand, when I took part in the 4km Individual Senior Men Category of the MCP X FOODSPORT Run For Food 2015 in mid-November three years ago. I walked into the crowd of athletes and went on the journey to compete as usual after putting on a colorful swimming cap on the racing day. It was not easy to finish the course even if it was not very long, because I had to climb up to the hillside during the race before going down from the peak to the finish line just like many others. I completed the 4km course at my ease, winning the trophy of the funniest outfit unexpectedly on that day. This surprised me because it was the first trophy I had ever won in distance running races. However, I had to be criticized by my mother at noon, fearing that I would have troubles again later.
I gained confidence subtly after experiencing such event, thereby encouraging me to put on a one-piece swimsuit for competitions and trainings to compete in distance running races. But it brought more troubles to me unfortunately because of this in late April 2016: Not only I had to explain the incident to many netizens, I had to answer the questions from media. I even once threatened to put away all the swimsuits I worn. Luckily, I received support and encouragement from a number of colleagues when there were lots of bizarre gazes and criticisms after the disturbing moment. This helped me to regain confidence and allowed me to put on a one-piece swimming suit for competitions and trainings to compete in running races, just like elite female triathletes. It was already after mid-summer later when I received praises from a group of colleagues.
I had won many finisher medals in various distance running races and obstacle races when I took part in distance running after such incident. Later, I became the first athlete who worn a one-piece swimsuit to take part in the 10km race of the Jockey Club Vitality Run and the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon at the beginning of last year. I had become the interviewee twice because of this. I was so surprised that I had to promote the Hong Kong Games and the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon taken place in that year, with my swimming suit being put on when I had been interviewing. But this had made me happy, thereby confirmed my determination and will to run for the athletes who encountered failures and unsuccessful prospective volunteers in sport events in future distance running races.
A few months later, I used the wordings "Artistic Runner and Dancer" (「花樣跑舞者」) in my number bibs when I took part in all three distance running races in PB Runners Charity PB Distance Running Competitions 2017 (慈善PB跑2017). I made a brand new interpretation for my own initiative since then, because the wording "Artistic Runner and Dancer" best reflected my principal purpose of taking part in distance running races and street dance competitions in a fancy one-piece swimsuit designated for competitions and trainings: to protect my body and mind without being harmed by strangers as well as my dignity; to cheer on every brave athlete who encountered failures and every unsuccessful prospective volunteer in multi-sports games through actions; and to pay tributes to many famous athletes who had become athletes with physical disability through determination and will. It is also worthwhile to mention that Kristina Vogel, who is one of the famous indoor cycling athletes, is also one of those who encountered accidents and become the person with physical disability during her daily practice.
In this year, I had completed half marathon races in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon and Hong Kong Streetathon in late January and late February respectively so far. This continued my glorious achievements to finish the whole 10km course in a unique outfit in the Jockey Club Vitality Run and the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon last year in disguise. In fact, a group of enthusiastic colleagues and photographers had photographed my heroic posture during the races and uploaded the photos to the Internet more than once when I put on a one-piece swimsuit to compete. However, I am also a person who loves to take photos and videos on sports events, in addition to inviting a group of colleagues to take photos with me before and after races.
In a blink of an eye, this year's UNICEF HK Charity Run and the next year's Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon are coming soon. It is about time for me to raise money for those children who determine to rewrite their destiny through sports. It's time. I want to share my experiences of participating distance running events at this critical moment, thereby giving encouragements to those athletes who have become persons with physical disabilities due to accidents. In addition, I would like to preferentially cheer on every unsuccessful prospective volunteer in multi-sports games who strike to make their personal achievements bravely, thereby giving applauses and cheers to the brave athletes who encountered failures preferentially with duly respect. Let us make a generous donation together and support this meaningful anniversary event, in order to bring the youth Paralympics to this vibrant world as soon as possible, thereby making a beautiful legend by allowing young athletes with disabilities all over the world to participate! Only by taking such actions can I be bold enough to overcome all the pain in yesterday.
