165km Run for the Underprivileged - George Lam x IHK "ULTRA-TRAIL Mt. FUJI" Fundraising Campaign

‘Grant Them a Chance’
Having been raised in a grass-root family, I was definitely not among the lucky ones who were born and endowed with overwhelming opportunities. Despite the inborn disadvantage, I believed in my ability to catch up and thus strived really hard to expose myself to as many learning opportunities and eye-opening experiences as possible, which I considered the foundation for upward social mobility. Yet with the widening wealth gap in Hong Kong nowadays, together with the greater emphasis on all-round development, the lack of learning opportunities and exposures has put the underprivileged teenagers at a disadvantage and hindered them from competing on a level playing field with their peers from more well-off families. All these make it ever harder for them to break through the social ladder.
As a trail runner, I have personally experienced and hugely benefited from sports training in different aspects of my life. The commitment I have in ultratrail races has cultivated my persistence and perseverance in face of the physical and mental hardships, encountered along hundreds of kilometers of trail running. I believe this kind of sports training will be even more beneficial to teenagers if they can have the exposures to different sports trainings at early stages of their lives.
This year we have one of the hottest summers in Hong Kong, but it has not stopped me from intense trainings. I have run more than 1,000km in the last few months to prepare myself for the 165km Ultra Trail Mount Fuji, which will be held in Japan in September. More importantly, I would like to take this challenge as a means to raise fund for InspiringHK Sports Foundation (‘InspiringHK’). Through long-term sports training and learning experience programmes, InspiringHK has the mission to “instill sportsmanship and charity in and promote equality for local underprivileged teenagers, so as to increase their social mobility.” With a grass-root family background, I wholeheartedly identify with their mission and this 165km is my first step to support these underprivileged teenagers.
I hope you share InspiringHK’s belief as much as I do. If you want to support our mission, we would greatly appreciate if you could make donations to InspiringHK through the link below. Your generous support will contribute to the creation of a level playing field for our new generation. Thank You!
