While Hong Kong people are working day and night for better living, the notorious “Environmental Monsters” have already begun nibbling away at the local environment! Will you turn a blind eye, or stand up against the dark side?
 
2018 is a particularly hot and dry year, making the Big Boss “Flame Thrower” stronger than ever. It vows to burn Hong Kong’s countryside, from tall mountains to wetlands, to ashes. Therefore, we need YOU to join us and become one of our Eco-rangers – hunt down “Flame Thrower” and other monsters to extinguish the fires!

Map Format: International Standard Orienteering Map in scale 1:10000 and 5m contour interval (1:10000, VI 5m)

How to Play
 
Wherever “Flame Thrower” goes, the land would be engulfed in fire. Eco-rangers (participants) must use the compass and map provided by the headquarters to track it down and look for ways to defeat it within a 2-hour limit, in order to save the environment.
 
Scoring Method:
 
Hunter category
“Flame thrower” and its gang are hiding in Tai Tong right now! Hunters must collect seals (special check points) scattered in the designated area and make use of them to hunt down the monsters. Claim the throne by defeating the most monsters!

Other categories
Points will be awarded according to the number of “Flame Thrower” check points visited as an orienteering competition.
 
The team which earns the highest score within the given time limit wins. Teams that exceed the given time limit will have their score deducted accordingly. Should there be a tie with more than one team having the same score, the team with the shorter time wins.

Remarks:

Additional Donation & Non-participant Donation
 
Please set up a personal fundraising page or download and complete the Additional Donation Form (LINK) and submit by post, fax/email (except for cheque payments) or in person.
 
If you are unable to attend the event, you are welcome to support CA’s environmental education projects in the form of donations! An official receipt will be issued by the end of December 2018 for donations of HK$100 or above. You may do so online or download and return the completed Non-participant Donation Form (LINK) stating one of the following donation options:

Submit a crossed cheque (payable to "The Conservancy Association") together with the Non-participant Donation Form. Please indicate "Eco-Rangers 2018 Donation" on the envelope and back of the cheque.

Important Notice
 
  1. The outdoor event poses potential risks and danger. The Organizer has purchased Public Liability Insurance and Group Personal Accident Insurance for the event. Participants may purchase accident / casualty insurance and property insurance on their own if necessary.
  2. The Organizer reserves the right to restrict or reject any application.
  3. All application fees and other donations are not refundable. If a participant fails to provide correct information, fulfill the minimum donation or follow the application procedure within designated time, the Organizer reserves the right to reject his / her application.
  4. All participants must declare they are physically fit to participate in the event. They must accept and comply with the requirements and related terms established by the Organizer. Any person who is pregnant or suffering from chronic diseases such as heart diseases or high blood pressure should not join the event. The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any participant known or suspected to be unfit to participate in the event. All application fees and donations of the disqualified participant will not be refunded.
  5. Participants are encouraged to wear the event T-Shirt or colorful jerseys and proper shoes so as to alert hikers and other park visitors from a distance.
  6. Participants should always pay attention to the safety of themselves and other park visitors (hikers/cars) during the event. Participants should stop or slow down and give way to hikers, especially along narrow and steep trails. Participants shall assume liability in case of any accident caused by negligence, which results in death or injury, or any damage to or loss of property.
  7. Bib tag should be displayed on the chest of all participants for identification.
  8. Participants who fail to arrive at the starting area at the designated time may be disqualified.
  9. Timing chips will be provided by the Organizer. Participants are liable for compensation of $150 per piece in case of damage or loss.
  10. The Organizer reserves the right of final decision of the event. Any change or contingent measure for the event shall be announced on the Organizer’s web page.
  11. All final decisions will be based on the Chinese version of the leaflet.
 
Detailed Notes for Participants will be uploaded onto The Conservancy Association’s website about two weeks prior to the event and sent to all team leaders via email. Team leaders should share the note with their members.

Inclement Weather & Emergency Arrangements
 
  1. The event will be cancelled if tropical cyclone warning signal No. 3 or above, red or black rainstorm warning is hoisted by the Hong Kong Observatory on the event day before 7:00am.
  2. The event will be delayed for 30 minutes if thunderstorm warning is hoisted (affecting the New Territories) by the Hong Kong Observatory before the event. The event will be cancelled if the warning is in effect (affecting the New Territories) by the Hong Kong Observatory for over an hour.
  3. The event will be suspended or cancelled if tropical cyclone warning signal No.3 or above, red or black rainstorm warning or thunderstorm warning is hoisted by the Hong Kong Observatory during the event. All participants should immediately look for a safe place to stay temporarily.
  4. The event will be suspended or cancelled if emergency situations occur during the event due to natural or man-made disasters (flood, hill fire, landslide, tree collapse, earthquake, damage of road, fights, etc.). All participants should immediately look for a safe place to stay temporarily. If participants fail to follow instructions given by officials, the Organizer shall not assume liability of any loss or injury caused.
  5. In case of any accident (car crash, knocking down animals, etc), the Organizer reserves the right to suspend, delay and cancel the event to allow timely support and rescue.
