Please Support the First Hong Kong Kabaddi Team!

Introduction

Kabaddi was introduced into Hong Kong recently. However, the event is developing in low profile due to lack of resources by voluntary contribution from Nepalese youths, teachers, students and helpers, which athletes will benefit physically, psychologically, socially and culturally. After years of effort, Hong Kong China Kabaddi Association (HKCKDBA) formally set up the first Hong Kong Team, which will participate international tournament in Taiwan on Apr 2018. We now need funding for the oversea tournament!

Aim of Crowdfunding

The 2018 Asian Games will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Kabaddi Teams from different Asian countries/regions are preparing for the Games. HKCKDBA received invitation from organizer in Taiwan for participating the Chinese Taipei International Friendship Invitation Tournament, which will be held from 20 to 23 Apr 2018. Participating nations/regions had competed in previous Asian Games. HKCKDBA accepted the invitation in order to have a better development of Hong Kong Kabaddi Sport in the future.

Since Kabaddi is a rare event and there were no representative teams in Hong Kong, HKCKDBA has started recruitment event on 4, 10 and 11 Feb, with the support of Hong Kong Kabaddi United and Kabaddi Group of HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity. Prospective women’s team members will undergo a 2-month training, which Kabaddi team squads will be selected afterwards.

The establishment of Hong Kong’s first Kabaddi team got attractions from the media. However, funding is essential for overseas competition and regular training. We hope that Hongkongers will show their support to Hong Kong athletes and let HKCKDBA and its stakeholders develop the event in future for the promoting sports and cultural harmony.

Your Support

Without any funding, HKCKDBA were run by a few voluntary workers, from society registration, holding community activities and workshops. For starting new sport events, venue is always the obstacle. We held activities in community centers, sports centers and schools. After starting up the first Kabaddi team, we are grateful to two students, who had registered as coaches in Taiwan, for training team members voluntarily two to three days a week.

The first competition of Hong Kong’s first Kabaddi team will be in Apr 2018. We need your generous support for young athletes to create history and fulfill their dreams. Apart from that, sport is always the medium of communication for people with different ethnicities. With your support, we should continue promoting ethnic diversity and harmony of the community.
