1 Background

According to reports, the trees in the earth are rapidly declining. Two of the main reasons include: cutting down trees and wildfires.

No one thought that humans could cut 15 billion trees per year, and only planted about 5 billion trees every year.

On the other hand, wildfires occur in many places around the world every year. For example: In Australia, there was a wildfire started burning in September 2019. The wildfire had not been controlled for up to 4 months, causing at least 24 deaths and burning more than 10.3 million hectares of land which is equal to 93 Hong Kong or the whole area of South Korea. 78,383 wildfires have been recorded in the Amazon rainforest, known as the lung of the earth, from January to August 2019. That is the largest number of wildfire record since 2013.

In fact, trees are very important for improving the quality of air and water. Humans should take good care of trees and protect nature. Otherwise, trees will disappear on the earth in about 300 years, and we cannot live on the earth anymore.

2 Pain point analysis

Many people are aware of the problem, but they do not know how to start to solve the problem. One of the solutions is to increase the number of trees planted by planting trees. However, it is not easy to participate in tree planting activities in Hong Kong. In addition, there is limited land area in Hong Kong. Therefore, it is not easy to find a large area to plant a large number of trees.

3 Plan

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has always supported tree planting activities, and Hong Kong citizens only need to make a one-time donation to support WWF to plant trees in the Rimbang Baling forest. It takes HK $ 250 to plant 1 tree; HK $ 750 for 3 trees; HK $ 1,500 for 6 trees; HK $ 2,500 for 10 trees; or HK $ 5,000 for 20 trees. You can name a tree/plant on behalf of your family and friends. WWF will send you a picture of the tree along with a link to an interactive map showing the location of the forest project.

In order to make the above activities more meaningful, I want to raise funds through crowdfunding and use the money to hold a coloring contest. Those who are willing to donate money can donate money through FringeBacker to support this activity. On the one hand, they can support tree planting through the donation. On the other hand, they provide opportunities to other people for planting trees. Some people who cannot donate money to plant trees for some reason, such as children, grassroots, etc., they will learn more about tree planting through this coloring competition. Besides, they will have a chance to get a tree planting opportunity.
