Sai Kung Stray Friends, a community funded non-profit organization in Hong Kong that cares for stray, abandoned, abused and neglected dogs, has been facing severe problems over the last year.

My name is Ansh Sahay. I am 14, and a student in Year 10 at Kellett School, Hong Kong. I have been volunteering for an hour every Friday at the SKSF shelter for over 6 months. I was astounded by the love and care they provide to their 100 beautiful dogs and pups, their drive to have continued this work for over a decade, and the empathy they show to make the lives of these canines more comfortable and enjoyable every single day.

I soon came to realise that the dedicated founder and all the compassionate caretakers were burdened by high rent, maintenance, electricity, medical and food costs that must be incurred to enact the challenging  job of caring for dogs. The rent is at a steep rise and their monthly costs reach upto $150,000 HKD, and are only growing. Relying solely on donations from the community, their expenditure is unsustainable, and they can only continue for so long. The challenges they face today are daunting, and eviction and euthanasia are looming possibilities. An hour a week of service was the least I could do on my part to help them.

I launched the ‘Save SKSF’ Project to ensure and secure a long lasting future for the foundation, by raising funds through the concept of Crowdfunding and raising awareness amongst the community about the extraordinary work that SKSF has done every single day for over a decade, and continues to do selflessly. My objective is to help them in any way that I can, but the power of the community is far more powerful than anything I could do by myself. Anyone from anywhere across the globe can unite and help this cause, all through the click of a few buttons. Whether you're a dog rescuer, dog lover, philanthropist, teacher, friend or family; ultimately it’s you who can make a change for SKSF.
