We Thank You
As a token of our appreciation for your trust and support, we have prepared some ‘rewards’:

To Know is To Love
There are plenty of hidden beauties in the many layers of Hong Kong's unique and rich culture throughout the years; bits from the past, the present and the future seem to converge. Many are receding away, either simply eaten away by time, or forcefully torn down to make space for the new.

We can't stop time. What we can do is to pay attention and appreciate what we have now - look after them well and try to preserve them in some form or others for our children's children. One way of doing this is by taking photographs and share them with others in our community.

We are Hong Kong InstaYay, a bunch of people who love to explore Hong Kong through organised photo-walks; taking photos and posting them to Instagram. These photo-walks have sharpened our observation skill, we began to notice and to see things with different eyes. We found treasures everywhere. We learned more about Hong Kong, its nooks and crannies, its unique history and its multiple-personalities. With appreciation, our love for Hong Kong grew deeper.

Now we would like to share what we have seen with others through a 2-section photo exhibition as part of the Very Hong Kong Festival. We call it: HONG KONG kaleidoscope.

HONG KONG kaleidoscope aims to show the many unique facets of Hong Kong, old and new, from the eyes of a very diverse group: we come from various countries, various parts of Hong Kong, various races, backgrounds and occupations. What unites us is our love for photo- taking, instagraming and exploring Hong Kong, our home.

We hope this exhibition could help in cultivating and increasing our appreciation of Hong Kong and its people.

The Exhibition
The Exhibition consists of two sections:

Section 1 at the Dominion Garden
Showing 100 pictures taken by 38 people. Each picture is to be printed on a stretched square canvas and displayed on bamboo scaffolding structures that are very Hong Kong indeed!

Section 2 at the Tunnel of Three Pacific Place
Showing a special project by Pete Lang, one of the founders of HK InstaYay. Over the past few years, he has been documenting old buildings of Hong Kong that sooner or later would be demolished. Along with each picture, he includes a detail description of the building; its name, location, the year it was built, its history, its condition now, the people who inhabited it, etc. This makes a very compelling read, bringing the building alive - an organism just like the people in and around it. Besides the old buildings, Pete also takes photos of ordinary people and old style shops of Hong Kong, each picture is accompanied by his characteristic detail and moving description.

This project is especially invaluable considering that many of the subjects he photographed are no longer around today.

Your Support is Crucial
This exhibition is a non-commercial, non-profit project organised by HK InstaYay core-members. We are pooling our personal resources together to make this happens, and our generous sponsor from O-Live Décor has made it possible for us to get the ball rolling. However, there are still expenses to be tackled. We still need some considerable funding to cover the rest of the cost for printing the photos on canvas, captions, information banners, and if possible, the exhibition book!

We can not make this happen without YOUR support. Please help bringing HONG KONG kaleidoscope to Dominion Garden and the Tunnel of Three Pacific Place where people from any walks of life in Hong Kong can see it, and hopefully, be inspired by it!

Think of it as part of your contribution for Hong Kong community. Any little bit helps! Together we can make this exhibition happen and help raising awareness about Hong Kong’s unique places, culture and history. Thank you very much for reading this far.

About HK InstaYay
HK InstaYay was founded by Pete Lang @furkidsinhk, Riley Edwards @rig_ and Tyson Wheatley @twheat on 8 March 2011. We held our first photo-walk on 20 March 2011, exploring Cheung Chau Island. There were a total of 13 people participated then, strangers met through shared passion for photography and Instagram. Since then, we have held over 23 InstaYays with the number of participants averaging at around 30-45 in each event.

Each photo-walk is organised by a group of members on voluntarily basis. The organiser would research the location and prepare the route of the photo-walk before making an official announcement.

Together, we have explored Cheung Chau, Sham Sui Po, Peng Chau, Repulse Bay, Victoria Peak, Ma Wan, Ping Shan Heritage Trail, Shanghai Street, Wong Tai Sin, Chi Lin Nunnery, Nan Lian Garden, Dragon's Back, Lamma Island, all things French around Hong Kong, Waterfall Bay, Tai Po, Sai Kung, Lei Yue Mun, Macau, Tap Mun (Grass Island), North Point, floating fish farm in Tai Po, Geopark Ma Shi Chau, Tai Long Wan Beach, and counting... With each photo-walk, we made new friends and discovered more things to love and appreciate about Hong Kong.
