Justice Centre World Refugee Day:

"Human Flow" Screening

Funded

on 20 June 2018

Every year on World Refugee Day (June 20), the world honours the strength, resilience and courage of millions of refugees, who are forced to flee their countries due to persecution, natural disasters, war or violence.

This year Justice Centre Hong Kong is proud to host a special two-part event on the eve of World Refugee Day to mark the day. Inaugurating the evening is a diverse line-up of young panellists, who will discuss their journeys on continuing awareness and activism.

The prompt is: #StayWoke.

Being “woke”, otherwise known as being socially and politically aware is key to participating in the conversation of human rights. And we all do it differently!

The hallmark of the night:

A community screening of "Human Flow", the well-known 2017 moving documentary by Ai Weiwei on the on-going global refugee crisis. The film that was shot over a course of one year and in 23 countries opened to some excellent reviews at the 70th Annual Venice International Film Festival.

“The exiled Chinese conceptual artist Ai Weiwei has here created an ambitious, humane and often shocking cine-essay on the subject of migrants and the 21st century migrant condition.” Peter Bradshaw, Guardian

“Every so often, he folds in an elegant or haunting quote, giving you something to think about as the camera shows a world in which, step by step, crisis by crisis, borders have become by turns absurd and immaterial.” Manohla Dargis, The NYTimes.

“You don’t watch the film, you experience it!” Andrew Cohen, executive producer.
