About iRun

Since 2011, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals has been holding the annual “Special Marathon” for people with intellectual disability in Hong Kong to participate in distance run race and to encourage them to actively participate in sports and to challenge themselves. Furthermore, this game requires the runner with intellectual disability to run together with his pair-up runner who is an able-bodied, so as to achieve the aim of inclusion.

Next year, the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals "iRun” - Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon 2018" will be held at 10:00 on January 14, 2018 (Sunday) at the Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section) and Lung Wo Road.  About 4,000 participants are expected. The "iRun for Colour" fundraising event is launched to raise funds for i-dArt, TWGHs: to promote art development for people with different abilities and to provide opportunities for these art lovers to make art as well as to realize their potential.  As such, this race for people with intellectual disability carries a special meaning.

About i-dArt

Art is a barrier-free common language. To appreciate beautiful things and to do creation freely are inborn abilities and rights of human beings. The focus of art appreciation should be on the power that the creators give to their creations and also their abilities, instead of their intelligence or physical ability. Holding this faith, we believe that art allows each individual to demonstrate and realize one’s “abilities”.  We will use art to connect people with different abilities and will explore more possibilities and creative spaces in the community.  In addition, we will encourage more people with different abilities to participate in art so as to promote social inclusion.

Use of funds

Funds received will be used for the development of existing art training and courses, such as instructor fees and material expenses for artmaking, and as expenditure for organizing a number of forthcoming exhibitions and performances.  Furthermore, funds will also be applied for projects to promote inclusive education such as community art programs and workshops.

  • A donation of $700 can support a person with different abilities to receive music training for 3 months from a professional instructor. (so as to release his emotions and to develop his music potentials)
  • A donation of $1,200 can support a person of different abilities to receive ceramic training for 3 months from a professional instructor. (so as to cultivate his potentials and to train his fine motor)
  • A donation of $5,600 can support a person to organise a solo exhibition for one week.
  • A donation of $18,000 can support a person with different abilities to take a year comprehensive fine art course.

No administrative cost will be deducted from the donations of the general public, ensuring all your donations go to operation and development of i-dArt, TWGHS.
