Established in 2011, Lawnmap Hong Kong is a local collective to encourage the use of public lawns, and to explore the potentials of public lawns as a creative public space. In the previous years we have initiated a number of activities, e.g. Grassfest (2012 January; 2012 December; 2013 December at West Kowloon Harbourfront Promenade); Grasscamp (2014 January Ma Tso Lung Campsite, Kwu Tung); Exchange square on the lawn (Alternative market without using money; 2014 June – 2014 September); Grasschool (Picnic food workshops that work with local bicycle / farming groups, 2012 & 2013) etc. In addition, we have also launched the Lawnmap website （www.lawnmaphk.org), so everyone can find and share the lawns in Hong Kong.

Lawnmap 2015 – Season 1 Programme

1. Grasscamp 2015
Grasscamp will return from 2nd – 4th Jan 2015 as a 3-day camp for public to enjoy music, explore nature and local culture at Gilwell Campsite, Kowloon Peak, Hong Kong. For a brief introduction of the first Grasscamp in January 2014, please take a look of the RTHK The Works Programme here:

2. Lawnmap Website V2.0
We have already started running the testing version of the brand new Lawnmap Website since November 2014. The new website aims to enhance various searching, browsing and GPS functions and to better synchronise on mobile device.

We will keep exploring the possibilities of lawns as public green spaces, and will act as a keen supporter to creative people and ideas.

Purpose of crowdfunding and how will the funds be used

Lawnmap Hong Kong is a project initiated by a few Hong Kong citizens. Except programmes or activities that we are invited to develop, we do not receive any long-term funding from any institutions or government body. Co-ordinators are all working on a voluntary basis, making use of their after-work hours and very limited resources to make things happen.

Both Grasscamp 2015 and the Lawnmap Website are under process and are committed to launch as scheduled using the limited resources on hand. In order to fully cover the cost for the camp and the website, we are looking for your support to subsidise part of the expenses.

The funds collected will be used in the following aspects:

1. The Domain and Storage package fee of Lawnmap Hong Kong;
2. Design, Administrative and Editorial subsidies for webmaster of Lawnmap Hong Kong website;
3. Covering part of the expenses of Grasscamp in 2015, e.g. Logistics, Equipment rental, Subsidies for Co-ordinators and Voluntary helpers, etc

Background of project owner - Thickest, Choi Chi Hau

Born in 1983, Hong Kong. He gained his Bachelor of Social Sciences from the School of Journalism and Communication (2006) and MA from Visual Culture Studies programme at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (2009). His works has been shown in Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, London, Romania and New York.

He is the founder of the Lawnmap Hong Kong Project, and also one of the co-ordinator of the Complaints Choir of Hong Kong. Previously he has worked as a tutor in the HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, and part of the working team for the Hong Kong Memory Project.
