I couldn't have imagined a year ago, when my pelvis was shattered under the weight of my horse, that I have now recovered to return on the international equestrian stage competing with my horses in Europe. Back in my saddle now, where I am most at home, I want to add to my Gold Medal in the National Showjumping Championship in 2009, my Bronze Medal in the Chinese National Games in 2009 and my Bronze Medal in the Asian Games in 2010. My personal target is to win another medal for Hong Kong in the Liao Ning National Games in 2013, The Incheon Asian Games in 2014, as well as be the first Hong Kong rider in history to participate in The World Equestrian Games in Normandy 2014. Your support on FringeBacker is very important for me, so that I can continue to groom my competition horses up to these high level competitions. I'm probably the first equestrian athlete in the world to gather your support through crowdfunding, so come and join me!
January 2013: My FringeBacker funding campaign starts!
But flashback to February 2011: I can still recall the event of my horse falling back onto me. The pain from the thrust of the saddle’s pommel into my pelvis was unpleasant, but the road back in the show ring would be the real fight! Overcoming physical challenges of redeveloping muscles, improving coordination and reflex involved unwavering mental strength.
As I sat confined to the hospital bed for the first four weeks after my accident, my head could only pivot around how I would soon be in the saddle again and make it to compete in the London Olympics Qualifier in July. Little did I anticipate that learning to get off the bed alone would be as much of a task as it was; a nurse to prop my upper body, arm under arm, mom to support my calves so the feeble legs don’t fall in an undesired direction, and an oxygen tube to help me avoid passing out due to the so-vigorous activity that the body had to brave. I experienced my most vulnerable state when I began to make toilet visits, with help of a height adjustable rollater, wheelchair AND a nurse!
It was a lot of physiotherapy sessions, 3-sets of 15 of these, 3-sets of 15 of those; aqua-cycling classes and even lessons at the riding-for-the-disabled. I didn’t make the Olympics qualifier but two months from there I was fit to start showing again.
Now, with Capone back to top form, I continue to be based full-time in Denmark, and carry the flag for Hong Kong at competitions throughout Europe. Looking ahead, my major targets are the Chinese National Games in September 2013, The World Equestrian Games in August 2014, and The Asian Games in September 2014.
Come support and join me on my journey towards Liao Ning, Normandy, and Incheon!
My Achievements:
I have been very active in competitions and have gotten good results as:
- 2nd in CSII* SEA (South East Asia) World Cup Qualifier in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia, 2008
- 1st in the Chinese National Championship in Beijing, China, 2009
- 3rd in Chinese National Games Team in Jinan, China, 2009
- 10th in International Grand Prix of CSIO3* Sopot in Sopot, Poland, 2010
- 3rd in International Chancellor’s Cup of CSI2* Poznan in Poznan, Poland, 2010

- 3rd in 1m45 Speed Class of National Show Baekgaarden Horsefestival in Skanderborg, Denmark, 2012
- 2nd in Grand Prix of National Show Herning in Herning, Denmark 2012
In 2011 I was invited onto The Hong Kong Jockey Club Equestrian Team, they have been my faithful sponsor for the past two years. Without them I could not continue representing Hong Kong on the international stage due to the sport’s high financial demands. Financial backing is vital in order to upkeep a strong string of quality horses so that I can excel in international competitions.
By taking the initiative to run my crowdfunding campaign on FringeBacker, I'd like to reach out to all my friends and everyone who wants to share my journey towards to Incheon Asian Games to come join and support me!
Funds Raised:
The funds raised will be used exclusively for my show-jumping horses in competitions; CAPONE, BASTA, LAGERFELD and GOLDORAC. Funds will support costs of training, competition entries and transportation. Raising HK$300,000 will be a great start. Come, let’s ride!
